Quick answer

Rockstar has officially announced two GTA VI editions: Standard and Ultimate. Pre-orders are open for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. As checked on 5 September 2026, the official U.S. PlayStation and Xbox stores list Standard at US$79.99 and Ultimate at US$99.99. Prices, taxes, availability, and currency can differ by country and storefront, so use the final first-party checkout page for your region.

Standard includes the game. Ultimate includes the game plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, whose vehicles, weapons, styles, businesses, and activities are threaded through Jason and Lucia’s story. A separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade is also announced for Standard owners. The useful decision is whether the official extra content is worth the local price difference, whether your platform account matches the product region, and whether you accept the delivery format. Rockstar says the physical Standard box contains a download code rather than a disc.

These are current U.S. first-party storefront prices, not a universal global price. GGWaypoint does not convert them into predictions for other regions. The pre-order checklist links to the official buying paths and explains regional and delivery checks.

GTA 6 editions compared: Standard, Ultimate, and the upgrade

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI. It does not include the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, but Rockstar’s support page says Standard owners can buy that upgrade separately after redeeming their game code. That detail removes some pressure from the purchase: choosing Standard does not permanently close the door on the extra package.

Ultimate Edition

The Ultimate Edition combines the game with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Rockstar’s current list includes the ’95 Grotti Cheetah, Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers, personalized weapon variants, Vice City Styles, Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles, the Ganado Retro Build, the Shitzu Squalo, businesses such as Rideout Customs and Sara’s Unisex Salon, and further locations and activities. Rockstar describes these additions as being threaded through the story, with items uncovered as chapters progress.

That description matters. It does not mean every bonus is available immediately, and it does not prove that a named vehicle or weapon is stronger than a standard alternative. Our vehicle guide records names and sources without inventing performance statistics.

Ultimate Edition Upgrade

Rockstar says the upgrade will be sold as a separate digital add-on through the PlayStation and Microsoft storefronts. Standard Edition owners can purchase it after their game code has been redeemed. Physical Standard owners can also upgrade after redeeming the code found in the box. Compare the combined cost in your own store before assuming one route is cheaper.

Digital and physical GTA 6 versions

Digital Standard and Ultimate editions are available through the supported console storefronts. Rockstar says digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading at local midnight on 12 November 2026. The announced launch date is 19 November 2026.

The physical version is a Standard Edition box containing a digital download code; Rockstar explicitly says no disc is included. Retail availability is expected from 12 November to support pre-loading. A physical Ultimate Edition is not listed, although a physical Standard owner can purchase the digital Ultimate upgrade after redeeming the game code.

Before ordering a box, check the retailer description for the platform and region. A shelf product can still depend on a download, storage space, an internet connection, and a compatible platform account. If a disc is essential to you, the currently described physical product does not meet that requirement.

Pre-order bonuses and the pre-load window

Rockstar’s support information says eligible digital pre-orders and purchases made before 20 November 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+ membership. The pack contains a ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. Physical pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack with the download code; Rockstar’s physical-version list does not show the same one-month GTA+ item.

Store terms can vary by country, currency, retailer, and platform. GGWaypoint does not sell codes and does not use an affiliate link in this guide. Read the final checkout page, refund policy, and delivery estimate yourself. Our GTA 6 pre-order checklist focuses on those practical checks.

GTA 6 editions buying checklist

  1. Confirm the platform. The current Rockstar listing is for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  2. Confirm the edition. Decide whether you want only the game or the optional Ultimate content.
  3. Confirm delivery. A physical box contains a code rather than a disc.
  4. Match the account region. Rockstar warns that code and platform-account regions must be compatible; its support page gives detailed PlayStation region groups and notes different Xbox handling.
  5. Compare upgrade cost. Check the live store price of Standard plus the later upgrade against Ultimate in your currency.
  6. Read the bonus deadline. Do not assume every retailer or late purchase includes the same offer.
  7. Keep the receipt. Save the order confirmation and the retailer’s cancellation or refund terms.

There is no universal best choice among the GTA 6 editions. Standard is the simpler purchase for players who only want the game. Ultimate is for players who value the listed story additions enough to pay the local difference. The separate upgrade means you can also wait for clearer information without losing the ability to add the Ultimate package later.
